Saving 50p could cost someone’s life

Posted on January 23, 2007 3 Comments

The Northern Echo website carries a story about car drivers parking on and blocking pavements, and the danger this causes, Saving 50p could cost someone’s life.

This, and cars going through amber lights, is one of my current pet hates. We’re back to pushing a single pushchair, but when we had a double buggy our way was frequently blocked by cars with two wheels on the path. I see it as one more example of drivers putting cars before people.

As I said before: How about writing down the number plates of these unsocially (and illegally??) parking car drivers and publishing them here?

I’d thought of that before, but I’m not sure it would do any good. Apparently, you can photograph the car and send it to the police; some parents’ groups have been doing this around schools.

I did write down the registration number of the police car that drove through an amber light behind me on my way to work last week. It was on my hand though, and I’ve washed it off…

I might start carrying a digital camera around with me.
