Cycle Chic – Copenhagen Girls on Bikes

Posted on September 5, 2007 5 Comments

“Social Documentary in High Heels”, is one way this blog has been described. It’s about bicycle culture in Copenhagen, Denmark. 35% of the population – 550,000 people – ride their bike to work or school each day. Bicycles are such an integral part of our culture and there are many aesthetic aspects on the streets at any given moment.

Perhaps we can inspire people in other countries to commute by bicycle or lobby for better bike conditions in their cities by providing a portrait of a city that lives and breathes bikes.

At the very least, enjoy the view from our saddles.

This is what cyclists look like when cycling becomes ‘normal’.

    that site is awesome!

    my page is very similar

but I trick the people by taking photos of non-women and non-beautiful people as well
    just to trick them

then I put text in between the images to prolong the time between images

I just had a quick look at your site and BikeCentric. I saw SS, drop bars and fixed gear, so I’ll probably be adding them to by reading list.

thanks for the plug for our Copenhagen Girls on Bikes blog. I agree that this is what cycling looks like when it is normalised. We have, however, had a century – and most intensively 60 years to create this bicyle culture in Copenhagen and Denmark.

It takes time and investment in infrastructure to create such a mammoth bike culture, but it appears the tide is turning in other countries.

The girls on bikes blog is one great angle but for more concrete info on the Copenhagen Bike Culture, have a read of our sister blog: http://cycleliciousness.blogspot.com

    Small Town Darlington Residents 2007:

“I think we should ban these types from our town centre. They are nothing but hooligans”.

Some people wouldn’t recognise beauty if it came up and kissed them!!!
